What Really Matters For Exercise?

What really matters when it comes to exercise?

(Let’s talk general health for regular folks hoping to live a while and feel good while we’re here )

1. Move your body most days of the week, in different ways! Not everything has to be, nor should be dedicated, structured training. But I can’t think of a day when movement didn’t help. The body is an aquarium. Keep that flowing!

2. Keep it simple & specific to your goals. Ok, so I personally like AcroYoga on a paddleboard in winter (hello @yogaslackers) but if you just aim to keep your movement practice simple, it is very easy to get MOST of your exercise from basic, wholesome movements.

3. Check in on your form. This is where a coach, a friend, or at least a video and mirror can drastically improve your baseline movements. If over time, you’re getting high quantity but low-quality movement, you’ll feel it! (Like, don’t eat junk food every day or you’ll feel like junk, right ?)

4. Move in ways that you LIKE. If you think you hate all movement, I dare you to turn in your favorite music and just notice yourself starting to move. SOMETHING is *almost* always better than nothing. Live within your means!

Ok, here’s a bonus that is really advanced. Are you ready? Bring joy to however you move! Dedicate your activity to someone you love, or make it a game, or just literally stop giving a damn and let your body take over. Emotional JOY makes huge tidal waves of movement in the body!
